Questions Families Ask

Plain answers for families raising a Deaf Autistic child

If your question is not here, ask it on the intake call. It is free, it is one hour, and no one will try to sell you anything on it.

Where do we start

Every family starts with a free one-hour intake call. We use it to hear what is happening, tell you honestly whether we are the right fit, and point you to what already exists for free before anyone talks about paying for anything.

What does it cost

The guide library is free to download and the intake call is free. From the second call onward, one-on-one consulting is $40 an hour, offered on a sliding scale so the rate can match what a household is actually able to carry. Costs for groups and classes, where there are any, are listed on the Classes and Groups page.

My child does not sign yet. Is this still for us

Yes. A large part of this work is helping families get language into the house in the first place. Neither you nor your child needs to be fluent to start.

Do we need a diagnosis

No. We do not diagnose, and we do not require a diagnosis to work with your family.

Is the school open

The Bridge School is paused while we secure a building, staff and sponsored student seats. The school page describes the model in full. Everything else, including the guides, the groups, consulting and workshops, is running now.

We are not in Oklahoma. Can you still help

The guide library is available anywhere, and workshops and staff training are delivered virtually. Student-specific consulting is case by case, because some of that work needs eyes on the room before we can build anything that actually fits. We also travel for events, workshops and consulting when travel arrangements are covered, and in-person groups are in southern Oklahoma.

What do you do that our school is not already doing

We work the overlap. Most teams have someone who knows Deaf education or someone who knows autism, and rarely both in the same room. We map what a student is communicating, what conditions their body needs in order to stay in a learning window, and what tools belong in their hand, and we hand that to the team in writing.

Ask the rest on the call

Bring the messy version of the question. That is the one worth the hour.
